So, much to my disappointment, I was not a fan! Could still be fun to read to a child, and parts of the writing were so charming and so vivid I greatly enjoyed them, but in general, the sheer absurdity of the whole thing turned me off. The ideas are great and different and amusing, but the way it rambles along, "and then this other crazy thing happened! And then this *other* crazy thing happened!" just did not hold my interest. It's a very choppy story line (again, good for reading a few pages a night to a kid maybe), and the characters in large part have no authenticity. Best part was in Through the Looking Glass, Alice playing with her kittens and chess pieces and acting out their adventures.
