I have to say that this book really challenged me. It starts with a bang, literally, but quickly introduces a bevy of new characters and story tangents that left me confused at the outset. Every time I thought I had it figured out, it would branch off again, leaving me bewildered. By the end, I understood what Rushdie was doing, but I wish he'd have found a more reader-friendly way of doing it. The imagery and scope of the story makes this worth a read, but reader be warned: this book isn't one you can read in bite sized chunks and expect to be able to follow it at all. Be ready and able to dedicate some real time to reading this, and I think your reading experience will be optimized.
