really liked it
bookshelves: audio
Read from August 18 to October 01, 2011

I do not like this reader - Nancy Stephens. She has the most horrible Irish accent. Plus, all her male characters sound the same and all her female characters sound the same. You'd think they could have found someone with a smidge more talent to read one of the most famous books of all time.

That said...I am enjoying the story so far (but I kinda forgot how much MM liked her exposition. It took 4 discs just to get to the barbeque at Twelve Oaks)...

41 discs later and I finally finished. Whew! I started this in August and I finished this in October.

I got used to the reader after a while, but she still had some difficulty differentiating the characters for me. A couple of times I thought Rhett sounded like Scarlett, and boy was that confusing.

This is still one of my all-time favorite books - but I had kinda forgotten how much Mitchell likes her exposition. Without so much back history, this 1000 page book probably would have topped out at 450. I'm not sure if that's good or bad - it just is.

Now I'm ready to go onto Scarlett - but it doesn't exist on CD so I may have to actually read it. Sigh. I don't know if I have it in me...
