A young girl finds a recipe to make an apple pie. However, when she arrives at the market to get the ingredients, she discovers that it is closed. Traveling by various modes (steamship, train, airplane, etc.), she journeys to Italy, France, Sri Lanka, England, Jamaica, and Vermont to locate the necessary ingredients.

Once she arrives home, she quickly bakes the pie and invites her new friends to share the pie with her. Looking closely at the table, readers can see that her friends are the children that she has met from all the countries where she found the ingredients for the apple pie.

Colorful and cheerful illustrations help this lively story along. A recipe for apple pie is listed at the end. This great read-aloud story would work well for an apple-themed storytime or for a geography theme.
