I agree with most of that, but what is perfection? It seems like the people who are chasing perfection are doomed to fail and those that accept that it is unobtainable, or at the very least, fleeting, are the ones for whom each moment becomes perfect for what it is.

recommended for: Ben, but really everyone, but esp people who want to relax.
First, I would love to be writing tons of really private notes to myself and then have them all exposed by some internet accident. That would be crazy.
I've now had the lovely experience of reading this book when feeling like things were falling apart and then reading it again when it felt like things were pretty normal. Both times were good. Pema Chodron has a crystal clear writing style, concise and beautiful. Her writing is a pleasure to read and I almost feel honored to get to read it.
I almost wish this book didn't have such an alarmist title, because I feel it has wisdom for everyone, happy or sad, at their highest or lowest point. She is very good at introducing Eastern concepts in a way that makes them very relateable so you don't get sidetracked by the exoticness of the words or stories involved. I also found her focus on feeling regardless of situation was what made this book special--how rage over a lost job can be handled in the same way as rage over the tiny ...more
