In a different series, Harris creates a character who can find the dead. After a lightening strike, Harper Connelly is able to find remains and tell what killed them.

In book 1, Harper and her stepbrother Tolliver find themselves in the town of Sarne which is in Ozark territory. She's been hired by the town matron to find the body of Teenie, her son's girlfriend. Her son, Dell, was found shot in the woods, deemed a suicide. The townspeople seemed to believe Dell shot Teenie and then himself.

Harper finds Teenie. Of course, Dell did not shot himself. Harper's discovery starts the unraveling of old secrets that someone wants to keep secret. Harper discovers that Teenie's sister didn't die in an accidental drowning and then Teenie
s mother is killed right after Harper and Tolliver visit. So, now Harper and Tolliver must find out out who behind the deaths before they are silenced themselves.

Harper is very different heroine and most of this book was a good read. I will say that the "clue" that Harper uses to solve the mystery is a bit weak. Other that that, it's nicely written and Harper and Tolliver and believable. Looking forward to book 2.
