Just finished this latest of the Dave Robicheaux series by Burke and I still can't catch my breath. Burke has lost none of his incredible descriptive ability over the years and this attests to that strength. While I now see some similar patterns in his work, I applaud them as sure indications of time and region. What I wasn't expecting was the ending! I won't spoil anything for you except to say Cletis Purcel is back, God love him! If there's a fuller character in mystery literature, more admirable despite his manifold sins and assured damnatiion, I'd like to read him. Good work, Mr. Burke.
