Chesnutt did an excellent job with incorporating law issues into this novel. He also took the theme of motherhood and showed how different motherhood is to certain people. The Wellington race Riot is about a real life event called the Wilmington Race Riots in North Carolina. The era of Reconstruction and racism was an intricate part to making this book a success. Chesnut is brilliant in telling the truth. I loved it.
