it was amazing
bookshelves: 2011, sci-fi
Read from October 01 to 05, 2011

This is so far best a book of the year (ok, a best stand-alone book). This is a very subjective book (it helps to have been teenager at 80's), and for me it is a pure gold, the pure geek heaven. This is a nostalgic memory trip to the (my) 80's, i'm not a gamer, but i got almost all the references with rpg's, movies, music and tv-series...with a stupid smile on my face. This book made me want to re-live, re-watch many movies that got referenced, and i have never been fan of Rush, but after this i might listen to some, that says something about this :)...even a romantic plot worked for me. This could work great as a movie, really great. I enchanted my reading experience with a classic scores, there is The “Official” Ready Player One Soundtrack Mix Tape at Ernest Cline's homepage:

Warning, it little spoilerish list.

ambyr I am torn--I see lots of glowing reviews from friends, but I also get the feeling that as someone who does not remember the 80s, I am likely to find this book pretty baffling. True?

Markus Still can be good book for you, but there is stuff that will be baffling in a way 'why the hell this is so great', but there is pretty good descriptions for most obscure things. But, hard to say...

Tamara i'm with Ambyr - i'm sure a geeky book about the early 2000's I would just love, but I worry this one will just seem self indulgent to me.
