I thought I would just skim through this and see if it had anything interesting to say and was surprised that I actually read the whole thing. The author is not a marriage counselor and it is not a self help book, it is a study of modern marriage. The first part of the book was really interesting. She explores how children have become the center of many marriages, the "workhorse wife" (she brings up the "Enjoli" commercial from waaaaayyy back - "I can bring home the bacon, and fry it up in a pan" which made me laugh) and the "downwardly mobile" idea of simplifying life (one couple downsized themselves into a mobile RV). The last part of the book gets into infidelities and "open marriages." Yuck. It is a candid look at marriage today and where the author thinks it may be heading.
