Cloak of Deception
by James Luceno
by James Luceno
It is not that I didn't like it, I just didn't like it per se.
The events are right before Phantom Menace where Palpatine gains power. It is more of a political book, but there is some action. The ending was good and clever, so that is a plus. It is one of those books that you really don't need to read. I liked Luceno's other SW books much better and they were written after this book. I got it from the library as pretty much all the other SW books that I wanted were checked out. So if you are in the same situation and really want to read a SW, sure. If not, then skip it.

I was trying to read some of the clone wars like 501st, Death Troopers or whatever it is called. I would like to do those, but I don't think I want to buy any of them. No place to put them and not worth it...

No place to put them and no..."If you had to buy one Clone Wars novel, buy "Hard Contact" by Karen Traviss. It's awesome. But you are so right, a LOT of the Clone Wars era novels are not worth the price to buy them (unless you can get them cheap, of course!).
Joseph wrote: "The Cloak one I just read was HB and the list price was $28 in 2001. No way..."Fortunately, Hard Contact is only available in Paperback. But I agree, $28 is TOO MUCH for this book.
In fact, I am probably going to try to sell my hardcovers of some of these books and buy paperbacks to conserve some space. Hopefully, they will sell!
Go to a use book store that does that or see if they can be used as trade ins. I know the one guy at my place gives me more back if I trade them in. Of course that doesn't help you living in Portland...Right now though I am going to read this book about the founding of Jamestown, then a book on how the Union thought Robert E Lee was in on killing Lincoln. I am heading to Spain for 11 days and was just going to bring my Kindle and a couple books that I have on it. But if I have time before I leave I have this book from this author that I like and how he found out from letters in his parents attic how his grandpa gave money to this town to save them from starvation during the Great Depression. It is called A Secret Gift.
