Having read a handful of contemporary vampire novels containing primarily sympathetic vampires, it was a definite change of pace for me to read about vampires that are evil incarnate. In addition, being intrigued by the vampire-genre, I enjoyed seeing how much influence Dracula has had in the portrayal of vampires in all variety of media. Despite the gruesome subject matter, Dracula was a fascinating read, full of strong and engaging characters that lead the reader through a suspenseful journey up to the very end. Highly recommended.
