The Accident, by Linwood Barclay, A-minus, Narrated by Peter Berkrot, Produced by Brilliance Audio, downloaded from audible.com.

Glen, a construction contractor, has seen his business shaken by the housing crisis, and now his wife, Sheila, is taking a business course at night to increase her chances of landing a good-paying job. But she should have been home by now. Waiting for Sheila's return, with their eight-year-old daughter sleeping soundly, Glen soon finds his worst fears confirmed: Sheila and two others have been killed in a car accident. Worse still, the police believe the accident to be Sheila’s fault as they found a huge supply of vodka in her body with an empty vodka bottle in the car. Glenn can’t believe it. Sheila did not drink and drive. Everyone seemed to think that Glenn should have seen signs of her alcoholism and stopped her before she got in the car. Then his daughter’s best friend invites her for a sleepover, and Kelly inadvertently hears a telephone conversation her friend’s mother is having. The woman becomes very angry and Kelly calls her father who comes to take her home. That night the friend’s mother, also a friend of Sheila’s is killed. Her death seems to be an accident as well but with a few more suspicious clues. As Glenn searches for the truth, he comes to believe that Sheila was murdered as well. He also uncovers mob-related businesses run by suburban wives like his own wife, where knockoff purses and other things are sold. Glenn and his daughter become targets for attempted murder because people think they know too much. This is a very good book and the ending is a surprise.
