The gorgeous Elizabeth Holland comes from old money and seems to do what she's told. But when her father's death plunges the family into poverty, Elizabeth is forced into a loveless engagement with a wealthy ladies' man. While at one time she may have done anything for appearances... this threatens the true, scandalous love of her life: Will, a commoner. What she doesn't know is that there are women (society and otherwise) who will stop at nothing to expose her secrets. Survival isn't easy in the glamorous world of 1899 New York City.

Wow! Lavish dresses, keeping up appearances, family pressure, secrets... if you are a fan of ill-fated romances, this is the book for you. All of you Twilight fans should read this if you're craving a little bit of star-crossed love. And all of you Gossip Girls fans? This will make modern society girls seems like amateurs!

Read this if you need some drama, some glitz, and some all-out catty competition!

I enjoyed this book. A good mix of romance and friendship gone wrong in historical New York.
