I think Ayn Rand has an interesting philosophy on life (although not one I buy into) and I'm always impressed when people use fiction to reveal their life ideas. But... I really don't care for the way Ayn Rand writes. For the same reason I never got more than halfway through Atlas Shrugged, I had to stop myself from repeatedly throwing this book across the room (which I actually did at one point...)-- I just hate the characters. That's right. Every single one of them. I know we're supposed to hate a lot of them, but even the ones we're supposed to like -- kind, intelligent, beautiful Kira and strong, sensitive, wonderful Andrei -- just all pissed me off. They were hopeless, helpless, and weak, and they pissed me off. Kira wasn't this strong woman at all, even in her rant at the end about "people should get what they want." I found her irritatingly ignorant and overly idealistic.
