This is a fine tale of a young man coming of age during the Revolutionary War. Johnny is a proud, sassy kid brought low by a damaged hand that prevents him from silversmithing. Johnny has to reshape his identity, his understanding of the world. He learns compassion, the meaning and importance of love (familial and romantic) and friendship. Ultimately, using his wits to spy for the American patriots, he becomes a true patriot.
