As a piece of fiction this book is undeniably well-written and very evocative. However, the book loses two stars for being about as historically accurate as the Wizard of Oz. As a light read it's enjoyable for a bit of entertainment but if like me you find glaring inaccuracies very off-putting you'll find this a tough read. Applause for Young's ambitious endeavours but she clearly needs to do a wee bit more research on Scottish history.
