This is a meticulously plotted book. It is about the members of the Singing Club and the people they come in contact with in a small town in the Dakotas.

There is the master butcher who started out to go from New York to Seattle. He stopped in this town to earn more money for his journey and stayed. Eventually he brought his wife and child to be with him. In time his sister came to America as well.

There is a mystery that surrounds the life of some of the characters and a satisfying ending that pulls everything together.

The story begins at the end of World War I and ends in the early 1950's.

I learned that life doesn't always turn out as expected.
