The Last Child

by John Hart
Gosh, where do I start. Well, first off, this is the best book I have ever read….and although I have not read as many books as I’d like at this point in my life, I have read some good ones and this was simply better. This book has it all: Characters, great plot, depth and simplicity at the same time, amazing imagery, and deep emotional storylines and character relationships at every turn that truly touch on real human-beings encountering real situations that are both heart-wrenching and touching at the same time. But what ties this book together and separates it from the pack of mediocrity, and even the good books, is believability in the story. The author does not resort to cliff hangers or suspense to keep your interest, but rather he wrote a story that you can relate to and one that you want to better understand and investigate all at the same time. Simply put, you want to keep turning pages because it’s just that good! The story is set in North Carolina and the imagery is great…you really get the feeling that you’re there and you feel how rugged the area can be. Hart illustrates both environmental and urban settings with rough neighborhoods, etc and you feel like you’re there.
Overall, I cannot write enough good things about this book Simply put, get it, read it, and enjoy.
