2md of the Medicus series. Ruso and Tilla journey north with the legion, to help with an insurgency and also to visit Tilla's family home. At the Roman fort near her former house, Ruso becomes involved in the case of Felix, who was mysteriously killed and found minus his head. Suspicion has fallen on the local medicus, who appears to be insance. Further confusing the events are the vily Uncle of Tilla, a local businessman, and his wayward daughter Aemilia, as well as one of Tilla's ex-boyfriends, the local basket maker, who is somehow involved with his tribe's support of the Stag Man. And to make matters worse, it is the Stag Man who is behind the unrest in the north. Ruso and Tilla solve the mystery, but not before lots of heartache over misunderstandings as to the state of their relationship. And the big question still remains - will they end up getting married?
