Brutal. Essential. Hopeful. These true stories cover some of the worst institutionalised atrocities happening to women in the world today, and some of the people fighting for change on the battlefield rather than at a policy level. Especially interesting is the study of microloans and why previous empowerment models have been a spectacular failure for decades, as well as the story of the women in a village and their calmly calculated revenge against a local crimelord. Harrowing reading, but compelling.
