A beautiful book to read to children before going to bed. Many have compared it to Good Night Moon, and for good reason. The story is a based on a nursery rhyme and has a cumulative pattern.

I agree that it seems like a strange choice for a Caldecott. The artwork truly is unique. The black, white, and yellow illustrations along with the stylized shapes make it an interesting book to look at carefully.

I had to read this book several times and think carefully about its strengths. It's not a book that I would necessarily choose to read as a teacher librarian. When I imagined reading it to a child before bed, I realized that it's a beautiful and sweet book.
