hey, it's summer reading... don't judge :P
i haven't read romance novels since i was a teenager and reading them just for the sex scenes. well, ten years later, the sex scenes are actually hotter (no "rearing manhood" and other cheesy euphemisms here, thankfully).
i like that this book defies a lot of the stereotypes of romance novels. the heroine isn't blonde, thin, shy and girly- she's curvy, brunette, owns her sexuality, and she's brassy and confident. Julie seems like someone i'd want to hang out with in real life. also, the sex is anything but straight vanilla sex filled with mushy sentiments. There are two hot MMF threesomes, some bondage, and a sex club- kinky sex seems to be the norm in this world.
on the downside, some of the dialogue is downright cringeworthy, and the characters act like idiots sometimes to further the plot/create drama, but it is a mindless summer read, after all. i'm not going to hold the book to the same standards as fine literature.
