I found the history of Smallpox eradication, and speculation on weaponization as well as research into how to prevent weaponization to be utterly fascinating. I was horrified and couldn't stop reading the descriptions of what smallpox does to the human body. But... I was disappointed by the overly easy to read, super simple journalistic writing style, and the lack of talk about the science of smallpox. One of my big interests back in college was in microbio, and while I was more interested (by far!) in bacteria than viruses, I was really hoping for more sciencey talk. I mean, even at the pop science level! But really, this is NOT a science book, it's a history book about a science topic. And there's nothing wrong with that, at all! It just wasn't what I thought it was going to be, and I found the writing overly simplistic, but I would still recommend it to anyone with a strong stomach, because it really is fascinating and worth reading!
