The Golden Compass (His Dark Materials, #1)
by Philip Pullman
by Philip Pullman
I read this book a few years ago, but just watched the movie. The movie stinks. In fact, I'm changing my rating from 4 to 5 stars because the movie's badness reminded me how much I enjoyed the book.
And I gotta say I was a little disappointed because I couldn't detect any of the insta-damning atheist undertones that 872 God-fearing emailers warned me about. Just because an author with a different world view than you writes a book does not mean you cannot learn anything from the book. Seems alarmist and arrogant at the same time.
