PERFECT SHADOW is a prequel novella to the Night Angel Trilogy. In it, Weeks reveals a little more of the origins of Durzo Blint and how he became a Wetboy (magic-using assassin). As usual, Durzo is less than reliable when it comes to relating his story and powers. Part of the novella is him explaining himself to someone, but we're left wondering how much of what he said is true.

Brent Weeks' books have amazingly fast pacing, and PERFECT SHADOW. I read this novella in one sitting and it felt like I had only just started when I reached the end. The relentless pace, combined with action we care about (because we care about the characters) made me love Night Angel. Perfect Shadow was a welcome return to the setting, though I hope Weeks will do a full fledged sequel featuring Kylar instead of Durzo.

Much as I enjoyed it, I can't recommend it to anyone that hasn't read Night Angel. First, it might not make much sense. Beyond that, it would spoil some of the major surprises about Durzo and what's going on in Night Angel. But for those that read Night Angel and liked it, I like this almost as much.
