Stiff, Spook, and now Bonk. I wonder what the title of Roach’s next book will be. Whatever it is, I’ll read it. She definitely has a special eye for the odd (even if the subject is not odd at all, like sex), and a good sense of humor to write about it.

So, this book is not about sex per se. It’s about people who’ve studied sex and the things that they did/had to do. It’s a research on the research on sex. Quite amusing – and informative as well. One of my long-held views on sex that turned out to be wrong from reading this book: I always thought that humans were the only mammals who have sexualized breasts. Wrong. Male pigs also fondle the breasts of their females during mating. If you’re wondering why the book gets into pig sex – it has to do with a study on the effect of female sexual arousal on fertility.

Men may be pigs, but at least they’re simple. When I got to the chapter titled, Minds over Vaginas – Women Are Complicated, I thought, yes, let’s hear it. But that chapter was too short for its subject. Then there are chapters on various penile surgeries and third-testicle implants that made me cringe. And there’s a woman who keeps moving her clitoris in search of a coital orgasm. Plus more. Read this book.
