What's not to like? A plucky heroine, good girls doing theatre (really!), a mystery ghost and a college student led astray (or maybe not), plus an alienist. A fascinating portrayal of Progressive era New York, with glimpses of women's issues (and a guest appearance by Nellie Bly), corruption in the police force, psychiatric treatment (or lack thereof) and the beginnings of the Costa Nostra all makes for a fun read.
