by Jennifer Echols (Goodreads Author)
This was my first Jennifer Echols book. She is a very good writer and I look forward to reading more of her books. This story, while I enjoyed the characters, was lacking a little for me.
Erin writes a story for her creative writing class about the stable boy back home, not realizing that he is going to be joining her class. That's a nice bout of awkward, but Erin's fear that Hunter (stable boy) will tell the teacher that the story's about him, and that the teacher will interpret that to mean that Erin is not a serious writer and won't recommend her for a publishing internship, is a little far-fetched. Yet, it is a pivotal theory that much of the book rests on, so that caused some struggles for me. Gabe (the teacher) must know that writers draw from their own experiences, so I really don't see that things would fall apart if he knew she'd had the hots for Hunter.
I loved the college setting and am delighted that Echols was brave enough to write a college-based novel, since the shelves are severely lacking in books set during that exciting time of life. Echols captured the college scene admirably and has a flair for character development, which made this a pretty enjoyable read overall.
