** spoiler alert ** As are most of Chuck Palahniuk's books this one too is like a hot but stupid girlfriend you want to love more than you actually do. Even when he writes in frustratingly broken English as the protagonist of this novel it is still engrossing. Even when he rehashes his sex-and-drugs starved American consumer theme it is still entertaining.

My problem however is with the plot which is beyond ridiculous. If you want to go kill millions of people with neurotoxin then just go do it. It just doesn't make sense that the terrorists spend all their time in some small town and that too mostly in the town's school. There are a handful of characters who appear in every scene. Walmart, school, church...Oh and it just so happens that one of these has access to neurotoxins. How convenient. Chuck also threw in 'anchor babies' into the mix which makes absolutely no sense. Was this a plot to kill millions in a short term or wage war after 18 years?

I get the feeling Palahniuk writes 10 shock themes on his whiteboard and then throws them into his story even if it does not flow. Good idea for short stories, not for a novel
