(4.5) Best journalism-like book I've read in a while (and of course, not by a journalist!)

He came far closer to living the gang life than probably most of his readers. Really well researched, explained and organized. I really felt like I learned a lot about the life and economy of a Chicago project. And he did well to show as many sides of the environment as possible: how all parties do good and bad: the gangs, the community leaders, the police. No one is on one side of the moral fence (well, perhaps the drug addicts who just come in to score).

Really good read. Thanks, Meryl, for the suggestion! :)
