Damage is about a middle-aged man who has an affair with a younger woman. Pretty standard stuff, right? But hold on there, there's more. The younger woman in question is his son's soon to be fiancée, and the middle-aged man is an upstanding man in England's parliament with absolutely no blemishes to his record. He was totally boring--until now.

There is a sexual obsession that dominates this story, an obsession so overwhelming that it propels the main character on a collision course to tragedy.

For me, these characters are all, on different levels, completely lacking depth. The narrator has traipsed through a boring, loveless fifty years of life, never once experiencing true feelings of love or passion until he meets Anna, his son's newest girlfriend. His wife, Ingrid, seems content with their passionless marriage and, together, they present the 'perfect' couple. Martyn has jumped from one relationship to the next; a total playboy. And Anna dates many men in an attempt to escape her sordid, troubled past.

The beginning of this book was slow as characters are introduced. But the narrator's downfall is so compelling and the obsessive, aggressive sexual trysts between he and Anna draw you from one chapter to the next so quickly that pretty soon it's 3:00 in the morning and you realize that you better get some sleep soon...LOL.

I could barely put this book down.
