Jim's living in a world where his dad has lost his job and become obsessed with model flyers. His mum works all the time and earns twice as much as his dad used to and his sister, well what can you say about big sisters everywhere? His best friend Charlie and he overhear two teachers having a private conversation and it isn't in any language they have ever heard. So they start investigating and solution to the mystery might be out of this world.

Of course this isn't in the same league as the curious incident but it's not meant to be. This book is aimed at 8-12 year olds and hits this mark right on the head. It is funny, quirky and quick moving. Perfect for kids with a short attention span. It is also made to be read to kids by parents or teachers. Though you do have to explain why english people say Gordon Bennett instead of swearing, now that made interesting reading.
