This book's plot was much more deeply developed than the first in the series. It reminded me a lot of the later Harry Potter books, in terms of tone (this book had an overall darker tone to it).

The one thing I have to wonder is how the author and the editor both overlooked the spelling of defense dozens upon dozens of times throughout the book. I would think a simple spell check tool would alert them that it's not spelled 'defence'. It got to the point that the spelling mistake was distracting at times. But bad editing has always bothered me...it may not bother others.
