FIESTY!

IN BED WITH A HIGHLANDER, Maya Banks August 30th release is as hot as its cover. With a heroine as feisty as Mairin, there’s bound to be sparks of one kind or another. In this novel, sparks fly everywhere.

As the daughter of King David, Mairin is one hot property. She has never married, never born a child and carries a dowry worth a king’s ransom. Or, in this case, the daughter of a king’s ransom. When the novel begins, Mairin is on the run from clansmen who eventually capture her and deliver her to the villain, Duncan, who plans to wed and bed her quickly, gaining access to her wealth.

While Mairin never stops fighting, and keeps up her witty dialogue while she’s at it, she is at an obvious disadvantage. Lucky for her, she has protected a runaway boy from Duncan’s wrath, a boy whose father is a true warrior, the leader of his own clan, albeit a crumbling one.

Ewan, the hero, is as intelligent as he is driven and is leading his clan in an effort t to rebuild itself and its kingdom from a prior devastation. When his son goes missing, Ewan sends him brothers – both equally as sexy, strong and warrior-like as Ewan – in search of the boy, which leads them to Mairin.

Ewan also sees Mairin’s value, but instead of forcing her to marry him, he strikes a deal with her. Together, the two engage in spitfire dialogue, find themselves in tense situations their interactions make humorous and of course there’s always room for great steamy sex.

Maya’s crafting of these characters is a fun element to watch unfold. Their story arcs are hard won and heartwarming as each creep from their personal extreme to a common middle ground where they can find happiness and love.
