I really enjoyed reading this book. Updike has a way of making a pretty run-of-the mill everyman's story into an epic. His writing is so rich, it was fun just to savor how he put sentences together. He describes the inner turmoil, confusion, hubris and longing of a late twentysomething extremely convincingly. It's interesting that Updike said he wrote this in response to Kerouac's On The Road, showing how when a family man takes off, everyone around him gets hurt. I'm looking forward to reading his next four Rabbit novels.
