Horoscopes for the Dead
by Billy Collins
by Billy Collins
Do you like Billy Collins? I continue to read his books, but I am not driven to my desk to write like him. I am not moved to carry his volumes with me, whether in my pocket or a plastic bag. I wrote my own collection of poems once, and a man said that I seemed to use a lot of plain words. I can almost understand his criticism, but I took it in a negative way. Then, years later, I read an advertising blurb on the jacket of one of Billy Collins's books, a blurb from USA Today that said Billy Collins writes poems in plain language that are easy to understand. Is this bitterness, confusion, or plain ludicrousness? No se.
