It doesn't get any better than a story about the dead set in a post-apocalyptic world. Brockmeier spins a whirlwind dream about the 'City of the Dead', where the 'dead' live until there is no one alive who remembers them. When a devastating plague begins killing millions of people, causing huge fluctuations in the population of the dead, the city struggles to understand.

Un-put-downable, this is another favorite and quick read, I'll revisit over the years. The only weak spot is the rather surrealistic ending Brockmeier chooses as he finally decimates the population of this mortal coil.
