** spoiler alert **
In this volume, the adventurers have arrived in Yokogata, Japan. Agent 355 and Yorick head to Tokyo to follow Ampersand's tracking signal, while Rose and Dr. Mann visit her mother's laboratory, thinking that the fact that the monkey is in Yokogata can't be a coincidence. Agent 355 and Rose are each somewhat less useful than you would hope, while Yorick is surprisingly useful. Meanwhile, back in the States, Hero and the second Beth arrive in Kansas.
Yorick describes Tokyo as "a super happy crime-free utopia for girls", which once again raises the question of whether Tokyo was more civilized than the States to begin with, whether it recovered better from the plague, or whether enough time has passed for the whole world to recover.
This volume also includes the "Tin Man" narrative, which provides background on Dr. Mann, and the "Gehenna" narrative, which provides background on Alter.
