Inert1 A remarkable bit of scholarship on a remarkable topic. Cook's voyages were remarkable achievements; the standard mortality rate for English travelers in the tropics was around 50% in his day, and he lost just a handful of crew members during two 18-month voyages. He introduced numerous policies that were far ahead of their time, particularly in the area of diet.
