Sea Glass
by Anita Shreve
by Anita Shreve
I read "Sea Glass" in a single day, sitting by the ocean. What a perfect setting! First, I love it when the chapters are voiced from different characters' perspectives - weaving a multifaceted story as they go. Second, the tempo of this book was smooth and continuous, briskly working toward an end I did not see coming. Third, I enjoyed reading about how people were surprised by and then rose to the occasion to survive the Depression. Even though the period references were "old", I couldn't help but think that we could all take a few lessons from the humble, optimistic and resourceful Honora, one of the central figures.
