I read this book on the recommendation of my friend Lincoln. Lincoln could not stop going on and on about how fantastic Bukowski is so I thought I'd give him a go. Of course, Lincoln is also a 23 year-old wet behind the years youngster. Nevertheless, I take book recommendations where I can find them.

Now, I like a good vagina joke as much as the next person, but otherwise, this book didn't leave me very curious or fulfilled. A little too macho for my tastes and I rarely, if ever, reached for my reader-response journal to write down interesting quotes or passages. I don't think that Bukowski is the famed misogynist so many feminists want him to be, but I also did not find him as compelling as I imagined would be the case. The pace of the book was its only saving grace. Were it not for that, I would probably downgrade the review to two stars. But I'm feeling generous.
