You Don't Sweat Much for a Fat Girl: Observations on Life from the Shallow End of the Pool

I received this book through the Goodreads First Reads program, and I was really excited because I was looking forward to reading it. I thought the title sounded like something I would enjoy (I love authors like Jen Lancaster and David Sedaris, so I had high hopes that Celia Rivenbark would follow in their footsteps with some funny, real life stories). That being said, I never could figure out what the title had to do with anything she wrote about in the book. This was my first book by this author, and I was pretty disappointed.
The book (minus a few sections) wasn't very funny and was really disorganized. I kept thinking to myself, "If this woman can get a job writing then obviously I can too." I didn't find her writing to be clever or entertaining. It felt like she sat down and just started writing a bunch of disjointed stories, threw them all together, and slapped a title on them. I was planning to pass along the book to a friend who had also been looking forward to reading it, but now I am not sure it's worth her time.
I might try to read another one of her books in the future because maybe I shouldn't be judging her on just one book. Perhaps this one was just a flop and one of her other books was really good. I don't know, but overall I was very disappointed and found it difficult to finish this particular book.
