it was amazing

I just finished listening to this as an audio book - after banning my family from my study for the last half an hour. This was one of the most moving experiences of my audio-book listening life ever. I couldn’t wait to listen to the next CD…I would have sat and listened to all 9 hours in a row if possible. The reader – Lincoln Hoppe – IS Doug Swieteck, the main character – omg – you could hear him smile! And I just felt sick to my stomach when he read about his dad on Doug's 12 birthday (don't want to give it away) and and more - just don't want to say too much. And Hoppe's reading of Schmidt’s descriptions of Audobon’s drawings – just stunning – I looked up Audobon’s paintings just out of fascination with the descriptions, but didn’t need to. “I got it” – as Doug Swieteck would say. If you want to call this a period piece – Schmidt nailed 1968-69, small town, blue collar community – the crudeness and the richness. I will listen to this again someday - definitely a keeper.

Heidi I loved this book so much! Thanks for reviewing the audio so glowingly. I had to gather myself before leaving my car to go into school on several occasions.

Sunday Woohoo!!!! So glad someone else felt the same way.
