i love his writing. plus, in a moment of self-aggrandizing, it makes me feel smart, not that my sentence construction here is gonna reflect that. he has a wide-ranging enough vocabulary and references to art and literature throughout history, that it makes me in this tiny measure validate my approximately $100k worth of liberal arts education. (low end.)
anyways some inspiring passages about the characters' psychologies that i really relate to & made my hair stand on end a little. but the ending is a big deflater, pthhhpt, kind of a quickly punctured and flailing balloon that spits around the room all too quickly & collapses on the floor and doesn't look so cool anymore as it did bright & colorful & flashy floating in the air.
my favorite passage was about the protagonist's mom who's described as regarding the world with an air of constant, underlying disappointment, as if she'd earlier lived in a utopia that reality never lives up to. i feel like i know a little about that (the attitude, not the utopia).
