i'm not much of a history buff, but the history of cryptanalysis and cryptography as spelled out in this book is really engrossing. espionage via social engineering, mathematical analysis, and sheer ingenuity really draws the reader in. the book was really well written with understandable explanations and examples to help illustrate the difficulties and advances made through the ages.
