I hadn't originally intended to read Tweak. After reading Beautiful Boy (the father's perspective on the story) I was so touched by the book that I didn't think this one could compare to it. I've read a number of books about addiction from the perspective of the addict, and I wondered how this one could offer anything new.
While it doesn't blaze many new trails, Tweak is an enjoyable read. Suggested as a companion to 'Beautiful Boy' this book completes the picture of a family torn apart by drugs and illustrates the first hand experience of dealing with addiction.
The book starts out a little haphazard, jumping around in time oddly, but once it settles down it is quite a solid read.
My one gripe is that the author changes the names of some of the people in the story (to obviously protect them). One key one 'Zelda' seems to integral to the story, I think it was the wrong choice not to name her by name.
Now having read both Tweak and Beautiful Boy, I wounder if reading them '...more
