The book made me cry on the bus. And then on the metro. And I'm not a big cryer So ya, it's really, really good.

The strongest storyline is the one between the protagonist and her mother, and it's when the mother enters the book that it really takes off--this story arc is flawless. It's moving without being shmooshy, and it's believable. One thing I can't stand in a lot of contemporary romance and women's fiction is too much overthinking by the heroine, and LDR doesn't commit this sin--I didn't have to skip pages!

I also found her relationship with her new friend, and her old boyfriend moving, but because they fall juuuust a little shy of their potential that I gave 4 stars instead of 5. Maybe it's just hard to live up to the Mother storyline since it's so well done; but I felt like the resolution to the friend storyline wasn't quite *right*.

Still--solid and often beautiful writing.
