What a beautiful, beautiful novel rich with characters so fully fleshed out and wonderfully drawn that I feel like I live in their neighborhood. I was able to empathize with everyone, even when they were feeling conflicting things about the same situation, so that they all felt very real to me. I fell in love with them all.
I'm tempted to give it five stars, but that elusive fifth star is something I usually reserve for a book that moves me beyond words or a book that makes me squee all the way. I wish I could give it four and a half.

I have her other book, Love Walked In, and I've heard it's very good also. I'll be reading it, soon.
Love Walked In comes first- I found Cornelia somewhat annoying in the beginning but then the book grew on me. I'm curious to see where the story goes in the second book-I'm glad to hear you liked it.
Oh, poop!!! Cornelia is the character in Love Walked In??? This is a series??? Crap. I wish I had known that and read Love Walked In first. UGH! I HATE reading things out of order! Well, that just bumped Love Walked In up to my currently-reading, and Bel Canto will have to wait.Oh, and Joanie? I loved Cornelia in this. Loved. Her.
I don't think that NOT having read Love Walked in ruined Belong to Me in any way, but I am worried now that having read Belong to Me will instead ruin Love Walked In. We'll see.
I wound up liking her by the end but she really bugged me in the beginning. The chapters alternate between Cornelia and Clare (not sure they're both in the new one) and the Clare chapters were so good that then switching back to Cornelia annoyed me but it got better. I'm curious to hear what you think.Is Teo is this one? I loved him.
Is Teo is this one?Um. Yeah. Teo and Cornelia are married. Cornelia's the main character. Clare is a minor character. Teo actually figures pretty prominently, but I don't want to give anything away...
I'm 2/3 of the way through Love Walked In. It's kind of creeping me out that Teo and Ollie are married. But I really like it.
