A young teenage girl wakes up in the hospital. She can't remember anything about her past, not even her name, so the staff name her Jane Doe, J.D. for short. "Awakening" is about J.D.'s journey trying to find out who she is.First, she spends a few days in the hospital. Then she's sent to a children's home where she befriends a lock-picking guy (girls always fall for the lock-pickers, don't they?) and saves him in a fight (view spoiler). After a few days there, a woman comes to claim her, saying she's J.D.'s mother. Of course, J.D. doesn't remember the woman and doesn't know what to think, though she desperately wants to be Alexa, her mother's daughter. With lots of action, and a little bit of a supernatural/sci-fi twist, "Awakening" is an okay start to a series, interesting enough that I'll be looking for book 2 but not in a huge hurry.
